“Britain’s most revered group” The Daily Telegraph
The Nash Ensemble needs no introduction, and here they present a programme guaranteed to delight. It opens with two Mozart pieces: first, Piano Trio No 6, and then String Quintet No 3, one of the pinnacles of Mozart’s chamber writing, and featuring the composer’s familiar 2-viola quintet line-up. Then fast-forward to 1920 and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ simple, concise, but heart-stoppingly beautiful The Lark Ascending. Bringing this wonderfully popular programme to a conclusion is Mendelssohn’s String Octet, written by 16 year old Felix this deceptively straightforward work masking a wealth of invention was acclaimed as a masterpiece even then. An unmissable concert!
