Symphony No 4 in E minor
We are delighted that Sir Mark Elder will make one final visit to Bath Mozartfest before stepping down as Music Director of the remarkable Hallé orchestra after almost 25 years at its helm. This concert promises something for everyone, opening with Rimsky Korsakov’s prologue to his opera in four acts based on a Pushkin poem, then Ravel’s complete Mother Goose, the composer’s enduringly popular interpretation of traditional fairy tales. The second half of the concert is dedicated to Brahms’ fourth and final symphony which will need no introduction to music lovers. Often regarded as Brahms’ magnum opus, this towering work has a terrific sense of cumulative power and its closing chaconne will bring the 2023 festival to a commanding conclusion. Unmissable
