String Quartet No 7 in F major Op 59 No 1 Razumovsky
The New York Times describes the Takács Quartet as “one of the world’s great string quartets”, and Bath audiences agree, they have been firm Mozartfest favourites for many years (although their line-up has changed a little). Tonight’s programme from this most distinguished quartet will feature works by Haydn and Mozart. Then the first of the three Razumovsky String Quartets from Beethoven’s Middle Period. They take their name, and Russian theme, from the Russian ambassador to Vienna, Count Andreas Razumovsky, who commissioned them. Although the quartets are now much-loved mainstream repertoire they were initially received with uncertainty, as they were perceived as difficult to both play and comprehend.
