Two musical Dames at the peak of their respective musical careers join forces in what promises to be a very special concert beneath the glittering chandeliers of Bath’s Guildhall. Mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly and pianist Imogen Cooper present a delightful programme of songs well known and less familiar. These include settings of Frauenliebe und Leben by Robert Schumann and also by Carl Loewe; Schubert’s ever-popular Verklärung and Ellen’s Gesang; five pieces by Henri Duparc, the great French composer known for his original and enduring songs, recordings of which have won Sarah Connolly much praise; and closing with Mozart’s beautiful but heart-wrenching Abendempfindung. Simply unmissable.
