String Quartet No 3 in E flat minor Op 30
The Pavel Haas Quartet is internationally renowned for the passion of its playing, the intuitive rapport of its players and its rich timbre. Performing at the most prestigious concert halls and events, this award-winning quartet is firmly established as one of the world’s foremost chamber ensembles. It will open our festival with the music of Mozart, his String Quartet No 22 in B flat major K 589, one of three late works collectively known as the Prussian Quartets, then to Pavel Haas’s Czech homeland and Dvořák and a selection from his Cypresses collection. After the interval Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No. 3, the composer’s final string quartet written as a memorial for Ferdinand Laub the Czech violinist and composer.
