String Quartet in G minor Op 10
‘Passion, precision, warmth, a gold blend: these are the trademarks of this excellent Israeli string quartet’ wrote an enthusiastic critic in The Times. We are thrilled to welcome the Jerusalem Quartet back to Bath. Their programme will open with Mozart’s first ‘Prussian’ Quartet, written for and dedicated to the cello-playing King of Prussia, composed late in Mozart’s life when he was at the pinnacle of his powers as a composer. This will be followed by Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No1 in E flat major Op 12, written when the composer was just 20 years old and on his first, very happy, visit to London. Finally, to Debussy, the subject of an acclaimed recording by the Quartet. The composer’s sole quartet is sensual and impressionistic but with Russian influences (think Tchaikovsky, perhaps due to a shared patroness) and poetic themes.
