Eric Lu is a young American pianist who won the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018 at the age of 20. Since then he has been hailed by The Guardian as a pianist with “the magic of Murray Perahia and Radu Lupu”. His Bath programme will start with three pieces by Schubert, the composer of whom Lu says: “I love Schubert…he was the ultimate artist”. Then Mozart’s Piano Sonata No 8 in A minor, the first of only two that Mozart wrote, and this at a traumatic time just after the death of his mother. Lu’s concert will conclude with Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Sonata No 3 in B minor, his final piano sonata considered to be one of the composer’s most musically and technically difficult works.
