Diabelli Variations Op 120
Cédric Tiberghien starting playing the piano at 5 years of age. Since then he has established an impressive international career as a soloist and ensemble player, and notably collaborating with violinist Alina Ibragimova. Le Monde has described Cédric as “an exceptional player from start to finish”. In Bath he will play Mozart’s Piano Sonata No 14, arguably the most important of Mozart’s piano sonatas. From the composer’s Vienna years, this fiery and passionate work is almost operatic in its range of emotions. Then to another great work: Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations, the 33 variations on a waltz by Anton Diabelli which may be seen as a microcosm of Beethoven’s art, and have been described by Alfred Brendel as the greatest of all piano works.
