The Castalian String Quartet are making their debut performance at Bath Mozartfest. Formed in 2011, since then the quartet has won many awards and prizes, including being named Young Artist of the Year at the 2019 Royal Philharmonic Society Awards, and since 2021 they have been the first Hans Keller String Quartet in Residence at the University of Oxford. They have rapidly gained renown for interpretations “full of poetry, joy and sorrow, realised to such perfection” The Observer. Their Bath programme will include Beethoven’s string quartet No 14, the composer’s own favourite of the late quartets, and the work of which Schubert asked “After this, what is left for us to write?”.
