Piano Trio No 2 in C minor Op 66
The Amatis Trio was founded in Amsterdam in 2014 but is now based in Salzburg. Celebrated for the energy, communication, creativity and passion of its playing the trio is regarded as one of the leading ensembles of its generation. Their Bath concert opens with Beethoven’s first Piano Trio, the medium he chose to introduce himself to the wider musical world. His Op 1 was not only enthusiastically received but made him a handsome profit! Amongst his most engaging and genial works it retains an enduring freshness. Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No 2, in contrast, was the final work published during the composer’s lifetime, and shows him at his impassioned and rhapsodic finest.
